Reference to the Statement of Western Province Governor Alavi Moulana regarding the activities of Muslim Armed Groups in Eastern Province published in the Tamil Videvelli News Paper on 31/12/2011.

In an effort to restructure the online Consular Division, HE The Ambassador Yaqoub Yousuf Alateeqi introduced a special section in the Embassy website.

The activities of Muslim Armed Group in Eastern Province has increased. They have created the internal problems between Muslims. These groups are being funded by several Middle Eastern Countries, Extremist Organizations specially the State of Kuwait.

The Deputy Minister of Women Affairs and Children Mr. Hizbullah rejected the remarks made by Western Province Governor Alavi Moulana. He said there is no Armed groups among Muslims in the East and denied any internal problems between Muslims.

Western Province Governor Mr. Alavi Moulana said to the Tamil News paper Vidivelli that the Middle East countries particularly The State of Kuwait is providing financial assistance to the Muslims in the Eastern Province of Sri Lanka to buy weapons to fight against Suffi Muslims.

In an effort made by the Kuwait Embassy to strengthen bilateral relations between Kuwait and Sri Lanka HE The Ambassador Yaqoub Yousuf Alateeqi arranged a Press Conference at the Embassy premises on 21/12/2011 on the occasion of the visit of the Kuwait Delegation from Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development.

A Loan Agreement was signed today in Colombo between the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka and the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development whereby the Fund will provide a loan to the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka in the amount of Kuwaiti Dinars 3 Million (Equivalent to about US$ 10.2 million) for financing the South Eastern University of Sri Lanka Development Project (Phase 1"B")

The Deputy Director General of the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development Mr. Hisham Ibrahim Al Waqayan said during the press conference held at Embassy Premises with presence of HE The Ambassador Yaqoub Yousuf Alateeqi.

The Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development and The Government of Sri Lanka signed a loan agreement on 20/12/2011 at Colombo for the amount of 3 Million Kuwait Dinar Equivalent to US $ 10.2 Million for financing the South Eastern University of Sri Lanka Development Project.(Phase 1 “B”)

H H Sheikh Sabah AL Ahamed Al Jaber Al Sabah The Amir of the Sate of Kuwait has appointed Sheikh Jaber Mubarak Al Sabah as a Prime minister of Kuwait in response to the resignation of Sheikh Naser Al Mohamed Al Sabah’s Government on 28/11/2011.

Kuwait took part in condolences on the passing away of the Saudi Crown Prince Sultan bin Abdul Aziz Al-Saud. His Excellency the Crown Prince Sheikh Nawaf Al Ahamed and HE The Prime Minister Sheikh Nasser Al Mohamed Including Senior Ministers and top level officers of Kuwait Government took part in condolences, to Saudi King Abdullah bin Adbulaziz Al-Saud and members of the Saudi royal family.

The Amir of the State of Kuwait H. H. Sheikh Sabah Al Ahmed Al Jaber Al Sabah has appointed His Excellency Sheikh Sabah Al Khalid Al Hamad Al Sabah as the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the State of Kuwait according to Amiri Decree No: 408 dated 23/10/2011.
