Amir congratulates Sri Lanka on National Day

The Deputy National Assembly Speaker Mubarak Al-Khurainij who is in official visit to Sri Lanka met Sri Lankan Minister of Trade and Industry Rashad Badi Al-Din discussed on several issues, primarily investment in Sri Lanka.
During the meeting, they also discussed how to rally up support for Kuwait’s non-permanent UN Security Council membership bid for 2018-2019.
Al-Khurainij vowed that the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development (KFAED) would help and support friendly countries, including Sri Lanka, hoping that the government of Sri Lanka would back Kuwait’s non-permanent UNSC membership bid.
“We consider ourselves as representatives of Arab and Muslim issues,” Al-Khurainij said during the talks with the trade minister.
Hailing the Sri Lankan community in Kuwait, the senior Kuwaiti lawmaker said: “The community of Sri Lanka in Kuwait respects and abides by the local law.” He commened the Sri Lankan government for handpicking several Muslim cabinet ministers as a sign of its respect for the rights of minorities.
On his part, the Sri Lankan minister lauded his country’s cooperative relations with the State of Kuwait as distinguished, urging Kuwaiti businessmen to invest in Sri Lanka.
He said the Sri Lankan government is readly to wipe out any potential obstacles impeding Kuwaiti investment in Sri Lanka.

June 3 (KUNA) — Deputy National Assembly Speaker MP Mubarak Al-Khurainij met with his Sri Lankan counterpart Chandima Weerakkody, on Tuesday, as part of his official visit to Sri Lanka.
Al-Khurainij praised the two countries’ relations, noting that this visit aims to develop cooperation in all fields, and mainly in the parliamentary domain. The talks will also touch on regional and international issues of mutual concern, the MP added.
Moreover, Al-Khurainij recalled Sri Lanka’s stance in support of Kuwait during the Iraqi occupation of 1990, adding that the Sri Lankan community in Kuwait has a good reputation and respects the host-country’s laws.
Weerakkody on his part also noted “strong” relations are shared by the two countries, praising the role of Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development (KFAED) in supporting projects in Sri Lanka, especially in the electricity and power field.
Sri Lanka’s economy is growing, and the number of Kuwaiti tourists is increasing, he said, calling on Kuwaitis to engage in more investments in his country.
The Kuwaiti delegation includes MPs Saleh Ashour, Hamdan Al-Azmi, Majid Moussa, and Mohammad Al-Hadiya, and also includes representatives of the Assembly’s Secretariat
June 3 (KUNA) — Deputy Speaker of Kuwait Mubarak Al-Khurainej held talks on Tuesday with Sri Lankan Foreign Minister G.L. Peiris on bilateral ties bonding the two countries.
The Deputy Speaker, emerging from the session of official talks, which also involved the Kuwaiti accompanying delegation, he described the Kuwaiti-Sri Lankan ties as good and distinctive, noting Sri Lanka’s support for Kuwait in face of the 1990 blatant Iraqi aggression on the country.
The State of Kuwait supports Sri Lanka at the economic and political levels, he said. It backed Colombo’s during the 19th and 20th sessions of the United Nations Human Rights Council, particularly in face of an American draft resolution regarding the events that occurred during the civil war in Sri Lanka.
Moreover, Kuwait has granted many loans to Sri Lanka. The last one, worth USD 38 million, was given by Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development to build bridges in Ceylon.
Al-Khurainej expressed hope the Sri Lankan Government would support Kuwait during the 2017 elections for the non-permanent seat at the Security Council (2018-2019).
He praised the Sri Lankan community in Kuwait for abiding by the Kuwaiti laws and rules.
For his part, the Sri Lankan foreign minister hailed the bilateral ties between the two countries and called on Kuwaiti businessmen to invest in his country.
